Ghostbusters 3 is Really Happening in 2020!

by | Jan 17, 2019

Are you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night? Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic? Have you or your family ever seen a spook, spectre or ghost? If the answer is “yes,” then don’t wait another minute. Pick up the phone and call the professionals…

I can imagine many of you thought that the Ghostbuster franchise was dead in the water, but it’s now official, Ghostbuster 3 is actually happening. Ghostbusters have had a rocky few years, Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot was widely hated, killing off any chances of a sequel and with the death of actor/director Harold Ramis, who played Egon Spengler, the plans for third film completely fell apart.

The secret to raising a franchise from the dead, is to keep it in the family, as Entertainment Weekly reports that Sony Pictures has plucked up Jason Reitman (the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the original 1984 film) to direct the new sequel to the original Ghostbusters. The younger Reitman has a number of hits over the years, including Juno, Up in the Air, Tully, and The Front Runner. He tells EW,

“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans, This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

It’s not clear at this stage if any of the surviving original cast (Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray) will return, but it does look like this is the passing the torch film that was talked about shortly before Ramis passed in 2014. To back up this theory, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Reitman is looking to cast two male and two female teenagers for the film.

“This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet,”

The news was met with a short teaser that hits all the right notes, including familiar scores and s sound effects, hinting that the good old gal Ecto1 has been rusting away in a warehouse for many years, but someone is working on something in there.

Yes the Ghostbusters will return summer 2020 and they are ready to believe you.
