Fans of Resident Evil and George Romero have something exciting to look forward to as Uncork’d Entertainment and Key 13 Films release a long-awaited documentary. Directed by Brandon Salisbury, “George A. Romero’s Resident Evil” makes its digital and on-demand debut on January 7. Originally announced in 2022, the documentary also comes with a fresh trailer to get fans excited.

Back in 1998, Constantin Film aimed to adapt Capcom’s iconic horror game, Resident Evil, for the cinema. They brought in George A. Romero, the visionary who revolutionised the zombie genre, to helm the project. However, despite this promising collaboration, Romero’s adaptation never came to fruition. Salisbury’s documentary seeks to reveal the untold story behind this intriguing chapter in horror history.

Salisbury expresses his admiration for Romero by stating,

“George Romero was a pioneer of modern horror and zombies, and he had a significant influence on Resident Evil. It’s an honour to share the behind-the-scenes story of his most notable unmade project and to celebrate the legacy of someone who inspired my filmmaking journey. I hope fans appreciate this deep dive into survival horror.”

The documentary promises an engaging and stylised journey, blending archival footage, newly discovered documents, and interviews with key figures. Drawing inspiration from documentaries like Frank Pavich’s “Jodorowsky’s Dune,” Salisbury constructs a narrative that revisits the creative minds behind this unrealised project. Through interviews with industry insiders, “George A. Romero’s Resident Evil” sheds light on the enduring mystery and ambitious vision that could have transformed the franchise’s Hollywood path.

Keith Leopard, President of Uncork’d Entertainment, says,

“We are thrilled to present ‘George A. Romero’s Resident Evil’ to fans eager to discover the untold saga of this legendary unmade film. The documentary honours Romero’s extraordinary vision and storytelling prowess that transcends what might have been. We’re excited for audiences to explore the mystery and legacy of his work from a fresh perspective.”

It’s probably also worth mentioning that Romero di bring RE to life back in 98′ when he directed the live action trailer for Resident Evil 2, but I’m sure this will be mentioned in the documentary.  Keep an bloody eye out for it’s release tomorrow and check out the trailer below.
