David Arquette Officially Confirmed to Star in New ‘Scream’ Movie

by | May 19, 2020

Not one to let a good franchise rot away in their basement, Spyglass Media announced last year that a new Scream film is in the works. The company picked up the rights to Scream last November thanks to the collapse of thew Weinstein empire. Whilst this has been something they have been kicking around for a while, the big question everyone’s bloody lips, is in which direction they would take it.

Thanks to a standalone MTV TV series, the franchise has managed to keep it’s face in the public consciousness, but would a new film be able to continue the story that started in 1996. Well, if Starwars can drag it’s story our from the grave, why not one of the most influential modern slasher franchises. And it seems that is exactly what Spyglass have in mind, as it was announced by President Peter Oillataguerre, that Scream franchise survivor David Arquette has signed on for the new film.

With filming restrictions expected to be relaxed withing the next few months, filming for Scream will begin later this year. Ready or Not directors Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing the reboot from a script by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, & The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not).

Variety reported on the news with an announcement from Oillataguerre saying…

“I’m excited to reteam with David and work with Jamie, Guy and Radio Silence on the next ‘Scream… Their take on the movie is both original, inventive and honors Wes’ legacy in a wonderful way. ‘Ready or Not’ was my favorite horror film of last year and I can’t wait to see what their amazing talents bring to the ‘Scream’ universe. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Neve Campbell has also spoken out about her interest in reprising her role. Even Matt Lilad, who turned out to be one of the two villains from the first film, has chirped in with his interested in revisiting his role

Of course, at such an early stage in production, the story is firmly under lock and key, and we’ll probably wont here anything on that untill next year. But keep posted here, as more names are droppedinto the Scream 5 pool.

Talking of pools, who’s up for a death pool? How about a “who is the killer” pool? As David Arquette is the first actor they have approached, all my money is on “Deputy” Dewey being the grand master mind behind all the Scream films. Stupid, I know…but what a twist.
