A Proper Robocop Sequel Is In The Works

by | Jan 24, 2018

I love Robocop. There’s something about it’s bleak outlook and media orientated society that really resonated with modern society. But it is the films moral and spiritual story undertones that really make the film compelling. The awful 2014 remake completely missed the point, turning the hero into nothing more than a robot (who thinks it’s a man!). That’s why i’m super excited about the recent news that a proper Robocop sequel is in the works.

“A little bit more of the old school thing!”

Den of geeks revealed that studio MGM are exploring ways to get back to that past version of murdered cop turned cyborg Alex Murphy.  Ed Neumeier, who wrote the script for the 1987 film, had this to say to in an interview with Zeitgeist Magazine.

“It’s nice that people are still interested in RoboCop and they have me working on a new one at MGM right now so maybe we’ll get another one out of it. We’re not supposed to say too much. There’s been a bunch of other RoboCop movies and there was recently a remake, and I would say this would be kind of going back to the old RoboCop we all love and starting there and going forward. So it’s a continuation really of the first movie, in my mind. So it’s a little bit more of the old school thing.”

The good news here is that the remake is completely being ditched, in favour of some old-school feels. Dead or alive…they are dragging Murphy back on the beat!

There has been three Robocop movies, A tV series, an animated series and a Tv mini series. A return to the original look and feel would be very welcome. Whilst it’s very unlikely Peter Weller would be getting back into the suit anytime soon, i’m sure the studios can find someone to fill the oversized shoes. They may not even need to fit into an entire suite. Look at how they create Iron man, with half suits and lots of CGI.

Nothing is set in stone, but we will certainly be keeping our eyes peeled for more news as it happens.
