Clive Barker Contests for Your $300k Film

by | Feb 2, 2017

Aspiring filmmaker of the USA, prepare for the ultimate horror film contest. Horror veteran, Clive Barker, has team up with Project Greenlight Digital Studios to help develop one aspiring horror filmmakers film into a 300K feature. Project Greenlight is an American documentary television series focusing on first-time filmmakers being given the chance to direct a feature film, whilst The Project Greenlight Digital Studios is a portal for emerging filmmakers to share their concepts and help them develop their projects through advice, content and competitions. Keen to embrace other genres, PGDS has partnered with Adaptive Studios and Shudder to help find the next big Horror director.

“This is also a great chance to scare and entertain audiences at the same time.”

Barker tells Heat Vision (THR) of the program

“When I was looking for financing while making Hellraiser, I wish there was a studio like Project Greenlight Digital Studios behind me. Teaming up with Adaptive Studios and Shudder is a wonderful opportunity to support emerging filmmakers in finding the new horror icon. This is also a great chance to scare and entertain audiences at the same time.”

This latest contests will see submission for original horror film concepts go into a public vote. Five finalists will get a budget to shoot a scene from their film and the winner will be announced in June, where the finalists will be invited to the second annual Shudder Labs. One winner will be selected to develop their film, receiving a $300k budget for their film, alongside Barker serving as executive producer.

From Feb. 13 to March 17, filmmakers can head on over to projectgreenlight.com to upload a pitch of an original horror film concept (one to three minutes pitch video ) telling them about your project and why you should win.

Some guidelines for your video:

It should contain a basic “pitch” for your series: setting, tone, genre, main character, etc.
The series should have a strong narrative arc.
Show us your creativity! Introduce yourself, get down, have fun!
Finally, your video MUST answer this question: Why should YOU Get the Greenlight?
You are also free to provide more information about your series by including a link to a web page where you can share photos, videos, a series bible, etc.

Clive Barker will be helping develop the winners horror film, mentoring them through the production. As well as directing and writing Hellraiser, Barker also wrote and produced Candyman, which was based on Barkers short story The Forbidden. He’s an avid producer and writer and is a keen and active member of the horror community.
