Final Destination Sequel is Happening

by | Mar 17, 2020

In a time of remakes and soft-reboots, it’s often comforting to hear about a good old fashioned sequel, especially when the series has burned out. Such is the story with the Final Destination series, which last saw a film back in 2011. The films are all set around a small group of people who escape impending death, only to be gruesomely picked off by a mysterious force. From the years 2000 to 2011, the franchise saw the release of five bloody movies which smashed and grabbed over $656 million USD at the global box office. Fast forward to epic 20’s (what are we calling these?!?) and it seems like we’ll be getting more from death! Hazaar!!

Celebrating the films 20th anniversary this month, Digital Spy spoke to series producer Craig Perry about his ideas for a sixth film. Perry has reunited with screenwriter Jeffrey Reddick to plan the gruesome deaths of yet more witless folks caught up deaths path. Perry said…

“Craig is the master of coming up with crazy openings and set pieces. He’s told me a couple of things that happen in this one and it’s going to be a lot of fun… We’re toying with having it take place in the world of first responders: EMTs, firemen, and police… These people deal with death on the front lines every day, and make choices that can cause people to live or die. We rely on their good judgement, expertise and calm demeanour. So why not put those people in the nightmare situation where every choice can bring about life and death – but now for themselves?”

It certainly sounds like an interesting new direction, but will the movie be connected like the other films, or will it be just a quick cash grab to take in a tad more cash for the series? Perry  says definitely not, this film is going to be a full blown final destination film.

“The concept behind it is unique.. it’s definitely a Final Destination movie… It’s not going feel like cash-grab Final Destination film.”

It does sound like it’s in a very early place, with the script being worked on, and there are no directors attached just yet, but I’m sure we’ll get some names being thrown about in the next few months. We’ll be keeping our eyes and ears open for more news on this as it comes.
