SyFy Orders Zombie TV Show with ‘Day Of The Dead’

by | Mar 3, 2020

If you were around during the start of the noughties, you may have noticed a huge influx of zombie films hitting the DVD shelves almost every week. It seemed that everyone budding director was turning out  low -budget zombie flicks  in order gain some sort of traction within the genre. It got to the point where there was so many bad zombie films flooding the market, I honesty stopped watching them. Well, it seems that trend is now transfering over to our new favorite medium, streaming TV shows. Whilst the Walking Dead showed us how to make a GOOD TV series, there’s plenty more pumping this shit out like C02. iZombie, Z Nation, kingdom, Santa Clarita Diet, Day Breakers, Black summer, there are so many shows to pick from and some are just as bad as you would expect.

Well it seems that there’s at least one more station ready to throw their Zombie show into the ring, With SyFy desperately trying to keep alive George A. Romero’s zombies series with a TV show based on Day of The Dead. Deadline dropped the news that Syfy has order a straight-to-series for Day of the Dead, meaning that it will by-pass all the ghastly drama of a Pilot and deliver us fans at least 10 episodes of zombie fun.

Written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who also will showrun, Day of the Dead is the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. This ode to Romero’s famous flesh-eaters reminds us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hungry zombies trying to rip them apart.

Syfy have been flexing their Horror muscles recently, following the order for another straight-to-tv series for Childs Play, with Don Mancini (who wrote all seven Childs Play films) acting as showrunner and he’ll even directed the first episode. With big franchise names being thrown around, could SyFy be considering their own streaming service?

The Show is expected to air next year in 2021, so listen out for more Horror New on this one soon! In the meantime, check out the original trailer below!

**Did you know that Day of the Dead has one prequel and two remakes? Day of the Dead 2: Contagium came out in 2005 and told the story of how the zombie plague started. In 2008 there was a straight to DVD remake and then there was another one that popped up in 2018. **
