Nicolas Cage is Dracula in Universal Monster Movie ‘Renfield’

by | Dec 1, 2021

Whilst this wont be the first time Nicolas Cage has bitten off more than he can chew, having donned fangs as a crazed man convinced he had become a vampire in Vampires Kiss (1989), Universal Pictures new movie will feature the star as the biggest blood sucker of them all, Dracula. Taking a leaf out of 20th Century Fox ‘s Victor Frankenstein (2015), the new film will be a solo adventure for Dracula’s human helper Renfield, played by Nicholas Hoult, but will feature Cage as the acolytes master.  Renfield is introduced in Bram Stokers novel Dracula (1897) as a crazed patient in an asylum who seems to have struck up some sort of relationship with the titular Count. As we only ever hear about Renfield from Dr. Seward’s journal entries, it has often been wondered what we might learn if we ever heard his point of view of the story. It’s possible that this is the direction the new movie will take. THR dropped the news on Cages casting, turning this mediocre release into something different entirely. Whilst modern day cinema goers maybe be a little tired of half baked Dracula stories and endless vampire films, Cage has the gravitas and spirit to turn this film into a must see performance. Hoult be damned, the majority of horror fans filling seats will be there for the big guy.  The film is being directed by Chris McKay, who recently delivered on Amazon’s The Tomorrow War, and being produced by Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst. More news as it rises from it’s grave!   —-
