Snowpiercer Season 2 is Already Filmed!
Snowpiercer was adapted from the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige as well as Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 film, starring Chris Evans, Kang-ho Song, Ed Harris, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton and Jamie Bell. The film and comic pretty much followed the same story of an uprising on a train-like Ark that houses the last surviving human population. The TV show took this story and manged to successfully tell it’s very own compelling story.
The Netflix show took a much more political look at the story, and included some quite inflammatory stories that will pave way for series 2. Snowpiercer is set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland. The last remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train, are engulfed in a revolution led by Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) that succeeds despite a number of major setbacks and tragedies. The show ended with a second train making a shocking appearance.
However, Fans of the Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs series may have some wait before the second run. Season 2 has already been confirmed and mostly filmed when the coronavirus pandemic shut down the production.
Annalise Basso, who plays evil LJ Folger in the show, spoke with Radiotimes back in may, confirming that the second series is already in the can.
“I’m really excited because we were just finishing season 2 when everything got shut down because of the pandemic… And the great thing about Snowpiercer is there are so many stories to tell about the people on the train and about survival.”
With the series finale airing, Showrunner Graeme Manson lifted the lid on plans for production to resume as social distancing measures are eased across the industry. He said…
“Things are beginning to pick up some in Vancouver [but] the realities and the practicalities are complex. We’re looking at it constantly. And again, we are at the point in the schedule where I can start with writers and we can start working remotely. So we can start that working. And our production schedule will probably push us into the new year anyway so, like a lot of people, we are trying to buy a lot of time, trying to keep our finger on the pulse of work-safe guidelines as much as possible.”
Lena Hall, who plays third-class passenger Miss Audrey, told ScreenRant that there is still a little bit of filming to be done before wrapping Season 2.
“We were actually filming the last block, episodes 9 and 10. So we’re very close to the end, we were already almost there.”
Whilst most of the show is in the bag, there is still lots of visual effects, editing and sound design to be done, along with re-shoots and other considerations. However, it could be possible that nothing really re-starts until next year, which means that the show could be returning to Netflix in 2022.
Whilst this might be a mighty blow for fans eager to find out what happens next, Netfilx was eager to drop a teaser trailer that pretty much confirms that Mr. Wilford will be making an appearance in the future show.
