“Help me…Help Me!!”

David Cronenberg’s 1987 horror The Fly is highly regarded as one of the best remakes ever made, alongside one of the better body-horror movies that encapsulate this period of film. Trying to compare the original 1958 film with Cronenberg’s master piece is like comparing chalk and cheese, but that has not stopped The Remaker from giving it a good crack.

Here’s the very first episode of The Remaker! Each episode compares an original film to its modern take. Some remakes are forgotten, others just suck, and then there are those rare remakes that stand on their own, well above and beyond the original. Spoilers are fair game here, so viewer beware! In this first episode, host Doug Guerra pits a sci-fi classic against its gory 80s remake! One is a typical 1950s sci-fi, while the other is 1980s gore at its finest, and while there is a clear winner between the two, the original holds a special place in our host’s heart.
