What if Drew Barrymore’s Scream Character Lived?

What if Drew Barrymore’s Scream Character Lived?

Drew Barrymore famously kicked  the bucket very early on in Wes Craven’s 1996 Scream, much to the surprise of viewers of the film. That has not stopped the actress from wondering what Casey Becker’s life would have been like if the iconic Scream character had survived her encounter with Ghostface.

Scream is constantly credited with revitalizing the horror genre, bringing the slasher genre kicking and screaming into modern cinema. One of its most influential choices was how it used Drew Barrymore. Barrymore was already a mega star by 1996, and it was widely reported that she had been approached to play the lead, but she had other plans.

“In the horror film genre, my biggest pet peeve was that I always knew the main character was going to be slugging through at the end, but was going to creak by and make it. What I wanted to do is to take that comfort zone away. So I asked if I could be Casey Becker so we would establish this rule does not apply in this film.”

Casey’s death has been imitated and parodied countless amounts of time, with the classic popcorn/phone call set up being one of the most powerful images from the films. So, it’s great that The Drew Barrymore Show has decided to have a “Where Are They Now?” segment of their show, where Casey Becker is the main focus.

In this fun parody, not only did Casey live, she’s still being harrassed by Ghostface. You can watch the video below. Enjoy…
