Disembowelment – Gory Moments That Have Guts!
Gory films are infamous for severed limbs and decapitate heads, but our other favorite moment of gore is the classic disembowelment. The removal of some or all of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract is a visual treat for gore hounds, but a nightmare for those of a more delicate nature. In todays list, we have run up 10 of our favourite gruesome evisceration. These movie moments show some real guts, as they tear, rip and ravage at your stomach. The Last House on the Left (1972)
Phyllis Stone meets a really nasty end, as a group of serial killers and sadist capture her and a friend. After brutally rapping the young teen, she manages to escape from her capture running into woodland. Phyllis finds an old cemetery but is cornered by the gang, and is stabbed multiple times. As she lies dying, one of the criminals digs their hand into the center of Phyllis’ belly button and pulls out her intestines.
Dog Soldiers (2002)
A training exercise turns hairy when a group of British Army soldiers are dropped in the Scottish Highlands, only to find themselves under attack from werewolves. Sergeant Harry Wells is one of the first to be attacked and is slashed across the stomach spilling his innards. But his journey does not end here. Taking shelter in a deserted cottage, Wells wounds are patched up by gluing his exposed guts back together, after which Wells makes a rapid recovery. But the Sergeant’s rapid healing is just a side effect of his infection, as he slowly turns into a lycanthrope. Just don’t expect him to go quietly.
Discovering a US$3 million bounty on Hannibal Lecter, Chief Inspector Rinaldo Pazzi decides to capture Lecter, when he finds the serial killer posing as an assistant curator of a library in Florence. Blinded by greed, the Inspector underestimates Lecter’s intelligence and before he even knows what’s happening, he finds himself trapped. Lecter ties him up, then disembowels and hangs him from the balcony of the Palazzo Vecchio, spilling his guts on the streets below.
Kill Bill (2003)
Waking from a coma, the Bride hunts down the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, to get bloody revenge. First on her list is O-Ren Ishii, now the leader of the Tokyo yakuza. The once elite assassin, is guarded by a group of soldiers called the Crazy 88 and her bodyguard, schoolgirl Gogo Yubari. As the bride narrates a brief description of the mysterious but psychotic Gogo, we see just how disturbed and vicious this young girl really is. She offers herself to a drunken man in a bar and then disembowels him, asking him, “Do you still wish to penetrate me?… Or is it I who has penetrated you?”
Brain Dead (1992)
The residents of Newtown aren’t feeling their usual selves, as Vera Cosgrove starts to spread a zombie virus throughout the town. One of Vera’s victims is drunken thug Void, who meets a sticky end at a graveyard. But his reanimated corpses becomes a persistent pain for the survivors of an invaded house party. After being split in half, voids guts spill out and also become re-animated. The disembodied organs start to attack people, wrapping it’s intestines around necks and arms.
Toxic Avenger (1984)
Tromaville’s Mayor Belgoody is actually the leader of an extensive crime ring, and when The Toxic Avenger starts to take down his men, the overweight criminal decides to take action. The Mayor calls in the National Guard, in the hope that they take down the superhero, but the townsfolk of Tromaville leap to defend the one man whose really clean up the streets. The Mayors evil ways are revealed and “Toxie” rips out Belgoody organs to see if he has “any guts”.
The Final Destination (2009)
The Final Destination’s Hunt Wynorski was a survivor of the McKinley Speedway crash, but death has plans for this rugged student. A series of bizarre incidents results in Hunt becoming trapped at the bottom of a pool by a faulty pump and drain. As the suction increases, Hunts guts are literally sucked out through his anus, and pumped out into the pool, turning the water an angry red. As far fetched as this death sequence might be, the death is loosely based on real life incidents of pool drains literally sucking out the bowls of people trapped by the suction.
High school student Casey Becker, and her boyfriend Steve Orth, are the first victims of the serial killer known as Ghostface. The pair are tormented and tortured before both being gutted with a very sharp knife. Steve is killed tied to chair as Casey watches on, trapped inside her house. After Ghostface chases her outside, Casey is stabbed, hung from a tree and disembowelled. Casey’s body is left hanging for her parents to find her shortly after her final moments.
The Wizard of Gore (1970)
Magician Montag the Magnificent is the prime suspect of a series of bizarre murders. Montag performs gory mutilation tricks on female “volunteers”. Cutting them in half, punching holes in their stomachs and poking out eyes. The women appear unharmed immediately after the show, but later collapse and die, mutilated in the same grisly fashion. Almost all of his shows involve the grisly act of disembowelment, as the camera focus heavily on the magician mutilating the woman’s innards.
Day of the Dead (1985)
Trying to find a solution to the zombie pandemic, a group of scientists are holed up in a underground facility in the Everglades, a US state of Florida. The group are reluctantly protected by a group of soldiers whose patience is wearing thin. In the face of dwindling supplies and the loss of communication with other survivors, Captain Rhodes takes control of the compound and tries to terminate the project. In the chaos, Rhodes is torn apart by a horde of zombies. The walking dead literally split him in half, spilling his innards onto the cold concrete floor. As the horde start to eat his spilled guts, Rhodes has one dying sentence on his lips. “Choke on em!”
